Introducing the Michael Scott Mater Foundation (MSMF)

The Michael Scott Mater (MSMF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building relationships between the United States and Foreign Nations through the promotion of sustainable engineering and green technologies in order to create jobs, promote cooperative and sustainable education platforms, and promote economic growth at the community level. The foundation looks for strategic partnerships from institutions of education at all levels, corporations, government entities, and other NGOs to help bring sustainable solutions to impoverished men, women and children at all stages in life.
Here are the primary initiatives for the foundation:
International Promotion of Sustainable Engineering Initiative (IPOSE)
The International Promotion of Sustainable Engineering initiative is a project developed by the Michael Scott Mater Foundation that brings together representatives from academia, government, industry, capacity builders, and program managers/NGOs to discuss new technologies and processes being developed and their practical application at the national and community levels.
Micro Loan Initiative (MLI)
The foundation works with local leaders at the community level in developing and promoting small businesses in order to promote entrepreneurship, sustainable economic growth and job creation.
World Empowerment Initiative (WEI)
Motivating, Educating, Inspiring – Partnering with entrepreneur and author Pat Schulz of ENHEART Publishing, The World Empowerment Initiative brings a message of hope and motivation to communities struggling with the hardships of poverty, violence and abuse and serves as an integral part within MLI.

MSMF IPOSE Gets Media Attention from Local and National Media Outlets

MSMF - Michael Scott Mater Foundation - has received some media attention from media outlets located within Oregon and The New York Times.
MSMF in coordination with Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and Portland State University has conducted a seminar fro nineteen Iraqi university engineering educators from 11 Iraqi universities. The main topic of discussion has been the use of sustainability techniques in construction and civil engineering projects. These Iraqi educators will be responsible for training future engineers that will help support rebuilding and inproving Iraq’s infrastructure.

First Day of MSMF IPOSE Begins with a Fast Start with the Signing of MOUs

Day one of the MSMF IPOSE began with the signing of Memoradums of Understanding (MOU) between each of the Iraqi universities represented at the IPOSE and Oregon State University. Representing OSU was President Ed Ray and Ron Adams - Dean of Engineering.
The MOUs are agreements between the state of Oregon working through OSU and the State Board of Higher Education and the Iraqi universities to pledge continued cooperation through mutual consent and the availability of funding in the following areas:
Exchange of faculty
Joint research activities
Participation in seminars and academic meetings
Exchange of academic materials and other information
Special short-term academic programs
Student exchange for research and study
The Iraqi universities represented are Slaahaddin University, Tikrit University, Najaf Technical Institute, Baghdad University, Kerbala University, Mustansiryah University, The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of the Kurdish Regional Givernment, Koya University, Duhok University, Kufa University, and Sulaimani University. Nineteen Iraqi engineering department heads and professors - all PHDs - signed on behalf of their universities.

Iraqi Delegation Arrive in Portland

After a long day of travelling (22 hours), the Iraqi delegation of 19 engineering educators from 12 universities in Iraq arrive at Portland International Airport. The delegates, though tired, arrive with energy and high expectations for the upcoming week of educational exchange. The educators are part of the inaugural IPOSE (International Promotion of Sustainable Engineering) seminar conducted by the Michael Scott Mater Foundation (MSMF) in partnership with Oregon State University, the University of Oregon, and Portland State University. This is the first endeavor of this type that brings together engineering educators from the U.S. and Iraq to exchange and share knowledge in the ares of sustainable engineering and construction.
The delegation was met at the airport by MSMF CEO Joshua Mater, Jesus Quispe - Chief Operating Office, and James Purefoy - Chief Marketing Officer. Below are pictures of the airport reception and some of the members of the Iraqi delegation.

PRLog (Press Release) – Jul 30, 2009 – The Michael Scott Mater Foundation (MSMF), an international non-profit organization headquartered in Concord, North Carolina, will host approximately 20 Iraqi university engineering professors in Oregon for a two-week seminar - August 1 - 17, 2009 - to study green building, sustainable design and renewable energy.
The seminar is titled “The International Promotion of Sustainable Engineering (IPOSE). IPOSE is one of the core initiatives established by MSMF. IPOSE is a project developed by the MSMF that brings together representatives from academia, government, industry, capacity builders, and program managers/NGOs to discuss new technologies and processes being developed and their practical application at the national and community levels. The other initiatives sponsored by MSMF are the “Micro Loan Initiative (MLI) and the World Empowerment Initiative (WEI).
MSMF was established in 2008 with a mission dedicated to building relationships between the United States and Foreign Nations through the promotion of sustainable engineering and green technologies in order to create jobs, promote cooperative and sustainable education platforms, and promote economic growth at the community level. The foundation looks for strategic partnerships from institutions of education at all levels, corporations, government entities, and other NGOs to help bring sustainable solutions to impoverished men, women and children at all stages in life.
MSMF currently has projects underway in Iraq and Pachacutec Ventanilla-Callo in Peru.
